Rangers 3 World XI 4 RECAP as Jermain Defoe, Kris Boyd and Robin van Persie among the legends on tar

The clocks went forward an hour but a host of legends rolled back the years to put on an entertaining afternoon of football in the name of charity at Ibrox.

Okay, they might have lost a yard of pace - they’re not quite at the walking football stage yet - and gained a few inches around the waistline but plenty showed they still have the quality.

Jermaine Defoe in particular has lost none of his striker’s instinct, albeit he’s only recently retired, as he scored a double and Kris Boyd was also on the scoresheet for a team of Rangers Legends.

But it wasn’t enough as a star-studded side of global greats came out on top with odd goal in seven. Robin van Persie settled it with the second of his two goals and Jack Wilshere and Luis Boa Morte were also on target.

Alex McLeish was in the dug-out for the Light Blues with Robbie Fowler taking charge of the visitors but charity was the real winner on the day with a crowd of around 30,000 turning out.
